EPURA spent money on downtown development in about 1985. They put in trees and new sidewalks downtown, finished the River Walk and, over time, completed many other projects. Regarding downtown, that project was completed about 20 years ago and isn't currently cared for. One would think that especially in a tourist town we would want to put on the best face we could for our visitors. Our very existence relies on visitors. The summer gardeners do a terrific job of planting and caring for flowers, but the downtown benches need refinishing, sidewalks need washing and repairing and they aren't getting the attention they deserve.
