Belly Up to The Bar Boys

If you want the job of Mayor or Trustee shouldn’t you be leading the parade? Tell me you love me, tell me a great lie, or tell me all the great things you did, do, or plan to do for Estes Park. Give me your vision for this community, inspire me, and give me solutions, tactics, direction, views, policy, something…anything. You are in a blizzard of citizen initiated law suits, why? Do not give me the corny list of non-profits you volunteer for…that means nothing. Do not expect to sneak in the back door, those days are over.

The Mayor and his cronies tossed mud ball grenades at the School Board incumbents, during the fall elections. Sue Doylen wrote that the School Board incumbents were “petulant children”. Town hall political cronies evidently felt that, when it comes to them, all is fair in love and politics.

Your trustees are elected “at large” meaning they do not represent the citizens of a specific ward or district, they do not have ward or district meetings, instead they have “committee meetings” with employees. They are not answerable to you, they answer to staff and staff
concocted schemes!

Community Development: Bill Pinkham, Chuck Levine, Dorla Eisenlauer.

Estes Valley Board of Adjustments: Chuck Levine (a town/county hybrid that serves no one).

Estes Valley Planning Commission: Richard Homeier (a town/county hybrid that serves no one).

Fireman’s Pension Board: John Baudek.

Public Safety Committee: Wayne Newsom, Eric Blackhurst, Dorla Eisenlauer.

Public Works Committee: Chuck Levine, Eric Blackhurst, Richard Homeier.

Utilities Committee: Richard Homeier, Wayne Newsom, Bill Pinkham.

Who is on the “lets report to the citizens committee”?

Each of these committees is a department of the town, these departments administer essential services, and they have paid department heads….what in the hell does Dorla know about running a police department? What does Richard Homeier or Eric Blackhurst or Chuck Levine know about water treatment, and if they manage the public works department by committee what in the world does the public works director , or the police chief do?

If you become part of the “Team” how do you effectively manage your team mates on my behalf?

30% of all trustee meetings end in “Executive Secret Session”.

Annually, each trustee will attend 24 meetings associated with their assigned committees, in addition to trustee meetings, and executive sessions, and road trips to assist with running their little part of the “team”.

When do we have the “lets report to the citizens meeting”?

Here are some points to ponder, while we wait for someone to wander up to the plate.

For the past four years we have experienced annual increases in electric rates….no end in site.

Our water rates are going up to accommodate for more condos….no end in site.

We lease the conference center draining the town budget, so Tom Pickering and his department have purpose….no end in site.

We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars lobbying and modifying state legislation, so the actions of staff appear legal. Wouldn’t Home Rule be cheaper?

The town is in court at every turn, because the citizens are tired of the questionably legal town staff actions (corruption).... no end in site.

Look at the empty retail space.

Look at the tiny empty Conference Center.

Visit the tiny museum lately?

We funded affordable housing….no one wanted.

We funded open space…. miles out of town.

Staff deliberately killed the Chamber of Commerce….for the money.

Now, the trustees want to fund a teeny tiny performing arts building, for a hand full of people (we are only selling lot 4 to fund the performing arts center)….please no one believes that crap).

John Baudeck wouldn’t let Bill Pinkham resume the 2017 committee, because Tom Pickering was to busy to run it. That is not leadership….that is a reason to retire and go fishing.

Everyone seems to look the other way.

When will we ever hear a trustee demand a town department responsibly manage their budget, you have plenty of money use it wisely?

Staff will be wanting….more tax money:

A Fire District tax.

A Marketing District tax.

More TIF money from EPURA (to borrow money without voter approval….Tom Pickering has a plan to fund stuff at the Fair Grounds….that the citizens voted down).

Aren’t you listening? The citizens of this town are not pleased with land use and the proliferation of condos; our schools are loosing students at an alarming rate, what community in Colorado was the last to successfully recall an elected official? The businesses are leaving and who will pay the bills? Staff, I think not, they will leave for jobs else where, as soon as they get their Phoenix University degree.

So you wanna be a trustee?
